contest-iconThe Martin Luther King Community Coalition has been sponsoring the Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay and Art/Poster Contest for the past 34 years here in the Pasadena, Altadena, Sierra Madre, and La Cañada communities. The Pasadena Unified School District, along with some of the local private schools, have been very supportive of our efforts.

We believe your commitment to the great legacy that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. left us is the reason we get the support we do every year. As volunteers, we want to do what we can to bring his dreams to reality.

The effort of students year after year in the language and creative arts areas demonstrate what they can do to keep Dr. Kingʼs dreams alive. This experience not only increases students’ knowledge about Dr. King, but also enhances their language skills, creativity, self-esteem, and character. “Blessed be the hand that prepares a pleasure for a child, for there is no saying when and where it may bloom forth,” says Douglas Jerrold, and we agree.

  1. Hello,
Can you please provide the criteria for the children’s MLK Art contest? I understand the deadline is today. What is the size restriction. I heard it was to be 12×18 but wanted to confirm. Can it be matted on top of that? Is it to be a poster with a slogan? Where should it be dropped off? What day is the deadline? Anything else you can tell me about it? Thanks please call me at 626-298-4265 or email asap with the info. Thanks!
