There are countless volunteers, throughout the year that support the Pasadena MLK Community Coalition with presenting the annual MLK Day events and awarding students with financial scholarships for the Essay and Art Contests for nearly three decades. We’d like to thank all those unnamed helpers and give special recognition to those organizations willing to go the extra mile for our shared vision and cause.
For the past 20 years, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses has been a proud sponsor of the Pasadena MLK Community Coalition. Each year, the previous, present, and future Tournament of Roses presidents and members from the Executive Board participate in the MLK Day Celebration and surrounding events, such as the annual campus beautification day — helping to enhance the presence of a selected elementary, middle, or high school within the Pasadena Unified School District. After getting their hands dirty, members give a special talk, including a presentation about the upcoming theme; Rose Court members take pictures with students and community members; and everyone shares a meal together. On the day of the event, Tournament representatives attend all of the events, from the morning teach-in to the end, taking photos with students and afterwards and enjoying a lunch with the community. The Tournament of Roses gives over one million dollars a year to nonprofit, educational, and other community organizations. We are proud beneficiaries of their generosity.
